
Jawahar Lal Nehru Planetarium If you want to enjoy the marvels
of the universe, visiting Jawahar Lal Nehru Planetarium is a must.
The planetarium was founded in 1989. It has a dome with 150m
diameter upon which night sky is projected. The hall has a seating
capacity of 210 and is equipped with space meter. 2 lakh visitors
visit the sky theater annually.
There are exhibition halls that have a high educational value to
those who want to learn more about the topic. The exhibitions
include Astro-photographs, Cartoons, Paintings and quotations.
Also on display are giant color pictures of Galaxies. Supernova
remnants Nebulae etc. A set of paintings and sculptures are on
permanent display. A Weighing Scale shows one's weight on all the
planets and also gives a print-out. A Science kiosk donated by IBM,
India is installed in the exhibition hall.
Other feature of the Planetarium includes a science park that aims
to educate children about science in a playful manner. There is a
sky simulation activity undertaken on first Sunday of every month.
Visitors are provided with a star chart of the day and taught its
use. The activity ends with star viewing through a telescope.
Large proportion of the population at this planetarium views special
astronomical event like eclipses, shooting stars, meteors etc.
